Vestre Prison
Enhances security and minimizes the risk of identity swapping
ARAS Security is participating in this pilot project at Vestre Prison.
This biometric solution stores inmates’ biometric data only while they are in the visiting room, and the data is deleted after the visit has ended.
This will strengthen security and minimize the risk of identity swapping during visits.
New procedure at Vestre Prison
The Danish Prison and Probation Service is now testing a new scanning method at Vestre Prison to prevent “escapes in connection with visits” – meaning that a visitor swaps identity with an inmate, allowing the inmate to leave the prison.
Four fingers are placed in a fingerprint scanner before entering the visiting room – and the same is done when the inmate leaves the visiting room.
If the fingerprints match upon return, this is shown with a green indicator, and the inmate may return to their cell. If there is no match, the indicator will be red, and neither the inmate nor the visiting guest may leave until further checks have clarified the reason for the red indicator.
The fingerprint scanner is a pilot project as part of the Prison and Probation Service’s ongoing work to strengthen security and minimize the risk of identity swapping during visits. It has been developed based on previous incidents where inmates have escaped or been mistakenly released as a result of identity swapping.
At the same time, it is an important supplement to help streamline the work for Prison and Probation Service staff.
